Federico Carra (Mesullam), lawyer
I am the son of two teachers, who instilled in me a passion for knowledge and study, along with several other educators, both inside and outside of school (I fondly remember Prof. Barbieri, Prof. Boniti, Prof. Zambarbieri, and currently S. Ferrari). Throughout my life, I have collected books that I planned to read once my professional career was over—and so it happened. I got my hands on a textbook on the Ancient East by Prof. Mario Liverani, and I never stopped.
In my professional life, after starting out as a freelancer, I worked as a lawyer in several major companies (Telettra, ENI, ABB), including a brief stint at Roberto Calvi’s Banco Ambrosiano—a den of hypocrisy. The most rewarding memories are from my many long trips to Nigeria, the Middle East, and London, dealing with procurement issues and international litigation. In the second part of my career, I specialized in corporate law (Mergers & Acquisitions) and antitrust matters, eventually serving as Director of Legal Affairs.
My passion for the Ancient East “forced” me to revisit Greek classics—poets and philosophers alike—study Hebrew and rabbinic literature, and rediscover modern thought, beginning with Galileo and Spinoza.
I currently spend my days studying, boring family and friends with the topics I care most about, and enjoying wine and culinary tourism, playing bridge, and keeping fit.
I have not read “50 Shades of Grey”, but I do indulge in a few shades of Pinot Grigio.
